The APB (Balearic Islands Port Authority) will start dredging on Monday, October 4, as a part of the construction project that has been under way in the Botafoc area in the port of Ibiza since last May. The dredger is now en route to the port of Ibiza from the Portuguese town of Portimao and is expected to arrive in the capital of Ibiza on Sunday afternoon.

Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) is using recycled debris from the former headquarters of Trasmediterránea for its further use in the building of their new offices in the Moll Vell in the port of Palma. For this, a crusher machine has been installed in a fenced area of the commercial docks which treats the waste generated by the demolition for later use as aggregate filler for the construction itself.

On September 30th the APB will organize a technical conference on aids to navigation targeting government institutions related to port activities, which have or should have  navigational beacons.

The technical committee responsible for assessing the tenders submitted to the open tender for the construction of a new access to Cós Nou from the La Mola highway in the port of Maó, has selected the company Antonio Gomila SA, out of the twenty-three candidates. The budget for the job is 1.9 million Euros, not including VAT, and the deadline for completion is five months. The aim of the project is to build a new road to provide access to Cós Nou, as well as a suitable surface for future passenger traffic and general cargo, away from the city center and with sufficient security guarantees.

The port of Palma has now broken the records of all preceding marks on cruise passengers and tonnage in a single day with the visits of six vessels, five of which weighed over one hundred thousand tonnes and with a capacity of 3,000 passengers. In total there were 21,510 cruise passengers embarking and disembarking and between 683,826 tonnes. The cruise ships which coincided today in the port were the Island Scape, the Navigator of the Seas, the Ventura, the Adventure of the Seas, the Costa Concordia and the MSC Fantasia.

The APB has put into service a new Duke of Alba which was built at the extension of the western Poniente pier at the port of Palma. The Duke of Alba, which has a bollard weighing 150 tons, will provide berthing capacity for cruise ships up to 250 meters long and 8.5 meters deep. The work, which  required  an investment of 800,000 euros, consists of six reinforced concrete piles of 1.5 m in diameter onto which a platform is mounted. Also, to further improve the berthing of large cruise ships, the area was dredged to a depth of  at least nine meters.

Work on the new offices of the APB in Palma has begun. The work was initiated at the conclusion of the Palma International Boat Show and has a deadline of 18 months for completion. Reforms of the old building will be made by Acciona, with budget of approximately 18 million euros. The project will respect the existing facade of the old Trasmediterránea building, while the current location of the APB at the Moll Vell will be converted to an institutional building.

The Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) has completed the work of reorganizing the access zone to the Formentera ferry terminal and the car park at the port of La Savina. Following the building of the new passenger terminal, completed in July 2007, the APB considered it necessary to improve the safety, the functionality and comfort for the traffic of heavy vehicles, cars and passengers in the area, and in addition to increase the number of parking spaces in the parking.

Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) is sponsoring the First Competition of Painting and Photography of Majorcan lighthouses, organized jointly with the Centre of Fine Arts (Circulo de Bellas Artes) in Palma de Mallorca.
