The APB awards the concession for the restaurant in the Sant Magí dock of the port of Palma

The Board of Directors of the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) has selected the proposal submitted by the company Di Loreto Consulting as the most advantageous offer for the operation, under an official administrative concession, of the bar-cafeteria-restaurant located in the Sant Magí dock of the port of Palma.

The concession covers a total area of 741.70 square metres, of which 220 square metres will be used for building and 520.40 square metres for the pavement terrace. The proposal provides for an investment of 2,029,580 euros, with a concession period of 16 years.

The project involves the demolition of the current building and the construction of a new restaurant, designed to integrate into Palma's renovated seafront promenade. The architectural proposal is inspired by the traditional boat, the llaüt, with a wooden pergola and sailing ship-style awnings that will visually connect the interior space with the outdoor terrace.

The initiative will make a significant improvement to this area of the port of Palma, with a more modern, accessible and open establishment, designed to add to the gastronomic and leisure offering of the waterfront.

The project also stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability. It includes the installation of 56 photovoltaic panels that will generate more energy than the establishment will consume, as well as high-efficiency aerothermal systems, LED lighting, and water saving and waste management measures.

In addition, the pavement terrace will be complemented with Mediterranean vegetation and shaded areas, contributing to creating a more pleasant space for port users. Charging points and parking areas for bicycles and electric scooters are also planned, promoting sustainable mobility.

With this new concession, the APB continues to forge ahead in the renewal and revitalisation of port spaces open to the city, strengthening the relationship between the port and citizens.

The port of Palma takes another step towards sustainable mobility with the awarding of the port bus contract

The Board of Directors of the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) agreed, at its last meeting, to award the first port bus service of the port of Palma to the joint venture formed by TUI Spain Tourism and MallorcAventura. The project will enable the implementation of a new regular maritime transport system that will connect different points of the port and the bay of Palma using sustainable vessels.

The Bus Nàutic Palma was created as a new concept of urban and tourist maritime mobility, designed to offer a modern, accessible and sustainable alternative for getting around the bay, both for residents and port workers as well as for visitors.

The winning company combines the international experience of the TUI tourism group —with a presence in more than 100 countries and extensive activity in Mallorca— with the local knowledge of MallorcAventura, a company specialising in sustainable maritime activities and promoter of the “Blue Circle” project, focused on maritime excursions with electric propulsion.

Three lines and six stations

The service will be structured into three distinct lines, designed to cater for different types of users. The first will connect the West Dock with the Royal Staircase of the Lonja dock and will be mainly for cruise passengers, with departures every 30 minutes on port call days.

The second will operate as a regular public service line, running every day of the year between the North West docks, the Local Transit terminal and the Royal Staircase of the Lonja dock, aimed especially at residents and workers of the port environment.

The third will cater for tourists and provide a connection with the beaches, linking the centre of Palma with Portitxol, Cala Estancia, Can Pastilla and s’Arenal. Therefore, this line will run during the tourist season.

In total, the service will have six stations strategically distributed around the bay, facilitating intermodality with other means of transport and connection with the historic centre and the main coastal areas.

A sustainable and accessible fleet

The service will operate with four state-of-the-art catamarans, each with a capacity for more than one hundred passengers. The vessels will be equipped with hybrid electric and biodiesel propulsion, allowing manoeuvres within the port to be carried out in 100% electric mode.

In addition, both the boats and the stations will be designed with universal accessibility criteria, including spaces for people with reduced mobility and areas for bicycles.

Daily usage rates

The service will have different pricing options. During 2026, a single one-way ticket will cost 6 euros, while for regular users the cost of the journey will be considerably reduced through passes. Thus, the 20-trip pass will allow each journey to be made for 1 euro, while with the 100-trip pass the price per journey will be reduced to 50 cents.

These fares, established by the APB in the terms and conditions of the concession, seek to promote the regular use of the port bus as public transport, especially among port workers and the citizens of Palma, reinforcing its role as a real mobility alternative.

A sustainable project with local impact

The project involves a total investment of more than one million euros, of which more than 55% will be allocated to environmental and sustainability measures. These include the installation of solar panels at stations, rainwater reuse systems, bioluminescent pavements, and artificial reefs to promote marine regeneration.

In addition, the operation of the service will create 48 direct jobs, with a commitment to local hiring and training schemes for maritime and land-based staff.

With this initiative, the Balearic Islands Port Authority is promoting a pioneering project in Spain that combines sustainable mobility, technological innovation and improvement of the urban and tourist experience in the port of Palma.

The APB appoints Alberto del Pino as new head of the ports of Ibiza and Savina

The Balearic Port Authority (APB) has appointed Alberto del Pino Rivera as the new delegate at the ports of Ibiza and La Savina, after successfully completing the public competition process called to fill this position. With this appointment, the APB strengthens the management of two of the key port infrastructures in the Pityusic Islands by recruiting a professional with an extensive technical and management background in the port and maritime engineering fields.

With a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Granada, Del Pino also has a Master's degree in Port Engineering and Management from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and a Master's degree in Occupational Risk Prevention from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Throughout his career he has accumulated more than 25 years of experience in the port sector and in maritime construction projects, both nationally and internationally.

He began his career as technical manager at the company PUYAT S.A., where he was responsible for the technical management of projects for ACUSUR (Aguas de la Cuenca del Sur). He later held port management responsibilities as manager of the Estepona Marina and technical manager of the ports of Marina del Este and Puerto de la Duquesa, which belong to the Marinas del Mediterráneo group.

Between 2010 and 2025 he was part of the international Van Oord group, where he participated in several port and coastal regeneration projects in southern Europe, acquiring solid experience in planning and executing maritime infrastructure. Since November 2025 he has served as head of the maritime works group at Adiante Infraestructuras.

Del Pino also participates in technical forums and international working groups linked to the maritime-port sector, including the Hispano-Portuguese group Aspectos Positivos del Dragado [Positive Aspects of Dredging] of the Asociación Técnica de Puertos y Costas [Technical Association of Ports and Coasts - ATYPC], and is part of the Environmental Commission of the Central Dredging Association (CEDA), an entity that promotes the exchange of knowledge in the field of dredging and maritime works.

With this appointment, the APB continues to strengthen the management, planning and sustainable development of the ports of Ibiza and La Savina, two strategic infrastructures for the connectivity, economy and maritime activity of the Pityusic Islands.
