Today, Sunday, the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) held its 1st Charity Race, held on the occasion of the public unveiling of the New Promenade of Palma, with a successful turnout of over 2,100 registered participants, in an event that combined sport and solidarity. President Sanz was absolutely "delighted" by the turnout and very satisfied with the outcome of the event. "We have handed over the promenade to the citizens, as promised, and with an impressive degree of participation," he said. "We have made a promenade for people, and we have celebrated it with a charity run for those of all ages to take part," he added.
As for the president of Projecte Home Balears, Jesús Muller, he thanked the APB for being the beneficiary of this charity event, as well as "for bringing together sport and solidarity for a just cause, such as rehabilitation and prevention of young people in the area of addiction, which is the field of Projecte Home. It is a cause for celebration," he concluded.
The event featured a packed weekend of dance and physical exercise activities open to the public, as well as a fair of exhibitors linked to sport and health. Today, Sunday, the day started with the 10 km race, followed by the children's races and then the 4 km race and walk for the general public. During the long race, participants were able to run through a restricted area of the port, such as the Poniente quays, which were opened to the public for the occasion.

Presentation to the public
The aim of the event was threefold: to involve citizens in the public unveiling of this new urban space on Palma's seafront promenade, to encourage physical activity in an emblematic setting in Palma, and to raise funds for a charitable cause. This initiative was the first of a series of initiative that will turn the new promenade into a permanent civic hub.
With this race, the APB completes the comprehensive transformation of the connection between the port and the city. The renovation of Palma's promenade has created a greener, more accessible and sustainable space, designed for public enjoyment and active mobility.
This APB project involved an investment of over €50 million and the transformation of 3.5 kilometres of seafront. The new promenade gives priority to pedestrians and cyclists, expands green areas and promotes sustainable mobility, reducing the prominence of road traffic.
Over the three years of construction, more than 2,300 new trees have been planted, 37,000 m² of landscaped areas have been created and large areas have been set aside for pedestrians, cyclists and recreational spaces. The project has incorporated sustainable drainage systems, smart LED lighting and charging points for electric vehicles.
